Apraksts
Sangaste manor house is a romantic building from 1874-1881. Originally there were 99 rooms there as only the Russian tsar was allowed to have a greater number.
The importance of the place is actually in the fact that the last owner count Friedrich von Berg developed here a new strong sort of rye - suitable for growing it in climatically harsh Estonia. He worked on the new sort of rye for more than ten years achieving a perfect - tall, strong and rich Sangaste rye by 1875.
Nowadays Sangaste offers wonderful opportunity for walks in its beautiful surroundings and visits to the palace made of local bricks, resembling old knights’ castles.
