Description
Tukums History Museum is located in the town’s oldest stone building, which is known as the Castle Tower and is part of the Livonian Order castle, which was repeatedly destroyed and restored. The tower used to serve as a prison and storage, but since 1995 it has housed the museum dedicated to the history of the town and its citizens.
The museum’s exposition “Our Stories, No One Else’s” focuses on the fate of locals in the context of the 20th century political events. Whereas, the virtual exposition shows the birch bark letters written in Siberia, which are included in the Latvian National Register of UNESCO’s Memory of the World programme.
